A development of seven houses in Rathangan was formally blessed recently in a con-celebrated ceremony in the village.
McCall’s Cottages is a development of retirement homes that were completed towards the end of last year and which welcomed its first residents through the doors just before Christmas.

The ceremony, which took place on Friday, May 18, began with a blessing from Fr Kevin Cahill, Fr Tom Dalton and Fr Sean Cullen, whose sister Ann is a resident in one of the houses.

The priests went around and blessed each of the houses during the mass.

The houses were constructed by builder, Paddy Berry, and are the result of the hard work and commitment of Rathangan Senior Citizen’s Housing Association Ltd. (RSCHA) whose Chairperson, Willie Constantine, spoke during the celebration.

He thanked everyone involved in developing the scheme and said they are a great addition to the area. A presentation was also made to Mr Berry by the RSCHA as it was his last job in the construction industry following a lengthy career.

The next development phase in the village is planned for the old Parochial House which the RSCHA hopes to develop into a community hub.
