There was great excitement at Slippery Green on Friday as residents of the new ten house development by Wexford County Council arrived to finally collect the keys of their new homes following several delays.

Constructed by Paddy Berry’s Bawn Developments, the houses are state of the art in terms of energy efficiency and are designed to massively cut down on heating costs.

It was a momentous day for the families involved, having faced a bit of a wait while the last issues were finalised.

‘We’ve been waiting to get a house for about 12 years now,’ said Artur Czuba. ‘We’re really happy with it. It’s a top quality house and we’re looking forward to learning how everything works.’

Similarly Conor Goff and Josephine Scallan were getting set for a busy couple of days.

‘We’re delighted,’ Conor said. ‘We’ve collected our keys now and we’ll try and do all the moving over the weekend. They’re top of the range in terms of heating and that kind of thing. Coal and sticks are getting very expensive so it’s great to get one of these houses.’

Sandra Mulhall was looking forward to getting settled into her forever home and getting started on the garden.

‘They’re really lovely houses,’ she said. ‘Having moved around for years, it’s great to finally settle in and we can’t wait to get moved in.’

Having been critical of Irish Water over the delays surrounding the completion of the project, Mayor George Lawlor was delighted to finally see residents take possession of their new homes.

‘After many months of waiting it’s wonderful to see the residents finally collect their keys,’ he said. ‘These are state of the art houses and are a superb addition to Wexford County Council’s housing stock. It’s great to see these Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) becoming common practice and this is the way forward for all new builds.’
